Popular seafood shack closes in Hudson County as owners run new restaurant

JERSEY CITY, NJ – It was a hip seafood shack, but it wasn’t on the water. Hooked JC — located on the corner of a street in the Bergen-Lafayette region of Jersey City – has gained a steady following of clients over its five years.

The restaurant offered “fresh catch”, scallops, peel and eat shrimp, po’boys, lobster rolls and fried oysters.

But last week, two weeks after celebrating a fifth anniversary, the owners announced they were closing the place.

“When one door closes, another opens!” they wrote. “We have decided to consolidate our resources and focus our full attention on Alyce Cafe. Hooked JC will forever hold a special place in our hearts and we are excited for what lies ahead in our new venture.”

Alyce Cafe is a breakfast and lunch venue at 641 Montgomery St., the Bergen Hill neighborhood on the West Side – about three-quarters of a mile from Hooked JC. See photos of their dishes here.

The owners wrote, “Thank you to all of our friends, families, neighbors and guests who have made Hooked JC such a success! We hope you will come see us this week to celebrate our 5 year anniversary and visit us soon at @cafe_alyce !!” .

“Thank you for 5 great years,” wrote a customer on Instagram. “The crab and cheese macaroni was divine and the silent pups worthy of screaming on the rooftop.”
